Briton Stender is a freelance photographer based in Seattle, Washington. He is an avid traveler, writer, and teacher. Briton specializes in portraits that capture natural elements of the human condition, and food photography that reflects the deep connection between cuisine and culture. His work has been featured on several websites, travel networks, and as visual aids for fictional writing.
By nature I am a participant: I like to be in the thick of things. But, when I take photos, there is a moment of complete removal, a sense of being a lone observer with the power to capture a story. There is a certain art to composing a moment in a way that combines both the subject's nature and the photographer's interpretation and, when one creates this juxtaposition, it tells a story that forces the observer to reconsider their own cultural prejudices. I believe that one grows only by exploring the boundaries of one's social and cultural environment, and photography is a medium that provides a opportunity for this personal sojourn.
